A communicable disease can threaten the health and welfare of the entire Quinnipiac University community. A communicable disease is an infectious disease that is spread from person to person through casual contact, exposure to bodily fluids, or respiratory droplets. Such communicable diseases may include, but are not limited to: COVID-19, measles, tuberculosis, hepatitis, meningitis, chicken pox, influenza, pneumonia, and mononucleosis.

By entering onto a Quinnipiac University campus, students, faculty, staff, vendors, and visitors agree to abide by all university policies and procedures related to communicable disease. Each individual voluntarily and knowingly assumes the risk of exposure to or infection of communicable disease by using the university’s services or premises, and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury or illness. Each individual also acknowledges that it is impossible to fully mitigate the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a communicable disease and that such exposure or infection may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of that individual, faculty, staff, vendors, visitors, or students on campus.

The university will administer this policy in a manner consistent with applicable non-discrimination laws and will provide reasonable accommodations where required by law.

The university will follow all federal and state guidelines, if applicable, and provide guidance on proper protection to alleviate and/or decrease the spread of communicable disease to mitigate possible harm. The university reserves the right, in its sole discretion and consistent with applicable law and public health guidance, to take such actions as it deems necessary or appropriate to mitigate the risks posed by a communicable disease. Such actions may include, but are not limited to: (1) suspending, limiting or modifying in-person operations, including partial or full campus closure; (2) transitioning courses, programs, or services to remote, hybrid, or alternative modalities; (3) restricting access to University facilities or events; (4) requiring isolation, quarantine, or removal from campus; and (5) modifying residential housing assignments, occupancy levels, or related policies and procedures.

Failure to comply with this policy or with any directives issued pursuant to it may result in disciplinary action, removal from university premises, or other appropriate measures consistent with university policies and applicable law.

The university reserves the right to interpret, modify, or suspend this policy at any time in order to effectively respond to evolving public health conditions or legal requirements.
